Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions answered

Business and organizational leaders, managers, professionals and individuals engage coaches to advance their careers and enhance their personal lives. But what actually is coaching?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

When you work with a coach, you set out on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.

Your coach is not there to give you advice, tell you what to do or judge you in any way. The aim of coaching is to help you come to your own decision(s); only you know how you feel in any given situation. The coach might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action and provide accountability for success.
Listening carefully is the largest part of what all coaches do. They make sure clients have clarified the problem areas in their own terms and help them decide what steps they want to take next. Coaches will always let the work proceed at the client’s pace.

Things to make sure about with any coach you visit are:

  • that they have recognized academic and professional qualifications
  • that they adhere to a professional code of conduct
  • that they have regular, ongoing professional development to ensure effective, safe and ethical coaching practices
  • that they discuss certain issues with you up front before any commitment is made to the sessions including:
    • their coaching style
    • confidentiality issues
    • fees
    • length of sessions
    • their responsibilities to you
    • your responsibility to them

At Aspire Wellness Consulting, the first coaching session is used in order to get to know you. We seek to understand your objectives and the reason that you came to us. We also use this session to devise a coaching plan and recommend the best basis to proceed going forward. Sometimes a single session can be effective, however generally it will take a number of coaching sessions to get to know you and advise you as to the best strategies to help you achieve lasting sustainable outcomes.
Coaching is suitable for almost any issue—professional development, leadership growth, relationships challenges, and more. There are some issues such as severe emotional distress (ie: depression) or serious psychological disorders would be referred to a licensed mental health professional. Online coaching can be convenient if you travel frequently, have difficulty leaving home/work for various reasons or simply prefer the convenience of having coaching session in the comfort or you own space. Online and face to face sessions can be used together to ensure a consistent coaching program.
